Barwa Reveals Alaateda And Signs An Agreement With Promontorio

"News keep coming about Barwa Real Estate big projects which the group is now taking effective steps towards their implementation. Barwa Real Estate Group revealed today, in less than a week, its second new project “Alaateda” during a press conference held as part of agreement signing with “Promontorio”, the engineering consultants for the project. The press conference was attended by Acting Group CEO Eng. Ahmad Abdulla Al Abdulla and Executive Directors of Barwa, in addition to news reporters and different media channels. 
 
Economic & commercial significance
Barwa Real Estate projects usually align with the strategic governmental vision and the needs of the business market in Qatar. “Alaateda”, therefore, comes with ambitions to address the shortage in commercial units in the country, caused by demolishing the old souq locations, and ownership of land plots around them. The project offers as well an alternative with good rental fees for merchants of medium businesses, and it enjoys a distinctive location on A-Ring road – Rawdat Al Khail, three minutes away from Musheireb, in Doha downtown. This strategic location will guarantee the best returns for users of the project in the future.
Following long feasibility studies, Barwa Real Estate Group chose the location of the project and implemented the initial design phase, all of which got approved by Barwa Board of Directors. Accordingly, Barwa started working on the detailed plans of Alaateda, and appointed engineering consultants “Promontorio”. The project estimated budget is approximately QR 500 million, and it’s expected to be released for contractors during the second quarter of 2015, marking the start of construction works, aiming for completion by beginning of 2017.

Project design & activities     
Alaateda consists of five connected buildings, G+1, each floor include a Mezzanine. Buildings were designed in a flexible way to adjust with any future plans of expansion. The commercial activity differs from one building to another, selling electronics, cars accessories, handcrafts, jewelry, furniture, textiles and fashion. While the last building is allocated for entertainment, video games, restaurants and a hypermarket. The project offers as well a parking lot with capacity to accommodate 1500 cars.
Units range in space between 70 to 80 square meters, and every commercial unit includes a multi-use Mezzanine, covering 60% of the total space, to serve the needs of merchants. 
 
Alaateda “Mechanical Machinery”
“Alaateda”, or Mechanical Machinery in English, is a name which might not relate to the project for the first instance. The project name, however, is closely related to its location, which importance might be recognised by older Qataris who used to know the area and the kind of commercial activity which used to run there. The land plot, on which the project will be constructed, used to gather all the central workshops of mechanical machinery, which ownership belonged to the government at that time. Through its project “Alaateda”, Barwa aims to revive the spirit of the area, not only through its name, as the interiors of the project will also reflect the spirit of the old “Alaateda”. "
