"May 2014 will witness the start of construction works for package 2 of the second phase of Barwa Al Baraha project, Barwa largest development being constructed in favor of workers in Qatar. This is a commitment towards building a solid society where its different social categories live in harmony, achieved by shrinking the social differences and raising the standards of living for those with little income.

Package 2 of the second phase will revolve around building 32 buildings of G+ 3 floors, each building to contain 130 rooms as package 2 will accommodate 24000 workers. In addition to constructing 4 dining halls, 2 play grounds, 2 mosques, as well as restaurants and utility shops.

The Qatari real estate sector is living its renaissance, especially with the boom in the real estate and infrastructure projects in the country, supported by the solid economic performance and the economic diversification which come as part of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy. Barwa works in harmony with those national plans launching projects and initiatives which are aimed at social development such as Barwa Al Baraha. Barwa is keen to fulfill its vision “to be a reliable real estate company recognized for its strong values, excellence and sustainable returns to its stakeholders”.

Barwa constructs its Barwa Al Baraha to realize its social responsibility in building projects which address real demands in the community. Barwa fosters the philosophy of community integration, which has drawn the guidelines according to which the group selects development opportunities, illustrating an investment beyond real estate. Hence, the group is now utilizing its capabilities to focus on projects for workers, to uplift their living standards and merge them within the community they live in.
The concept of Barwa Al Baraha was born in 2008, as project designs suggested constructing workers accommodation and building the largest truck park in Qatar and the Middle East, to provide services for trucks and latest technologies in surveillance. The project concept was announced on January 2009 through a press conference held at the Baraha location in the Industrial Area, which was attended by Group CEO and management as well as a number of VIPs and high profile officials. Following this announcement, Barwa conducted studies on the project to find out that the strength point of Barwa Al Baraha is held in its workers accommodation component, which will form an integrated workers city that is constructed in line with the social demand inside Qatar.

Barwa Al Baraha is constructed over approximately 1.8 million square meters, with capacity of 53,000 workers. The project is being developed into two phases, phase one, which is now completed, provides Qatar’s largest truck and vehicle parking space, with 4200 parking spaces for trucks of different sizes. The fees for the parking spaces will be very reasonable, QR15 per exit. Discounts will be provided to those with monthly subscriptions with the first six months offered for free. Barwa Al Baraha truck park is a contribution from Barwa to limit the rising issue of trucks parking in the middle of residential areas.

In January 2012 Barwa laid the foundation stone of the second phase of Barwa Al Baraha. This phase is divided into three packages. Package 1 & 2 together offer workers accommodation as they provide 64 residential buildings, each gathering 130 rooms, as well as dining halls, mosques and restaurants; while package 3, which will be constructed in the near future, will provide 16 residential buildings for junior & senior staff, each gathering 97 rooms. Barwa Al Baraha gathers all needed facilities for residents including sports facilities, a shopping mall, restaurants, a medical centre and public spaces. The foundation stone was laid during a ceremony attended by His Excellency Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, and a number of senior officials from different ministries and organizations.

VIPS visits continued as the project showed more potential and progress. H.E. Mr. Salah Bin Ghanem Naser Al Ali, Minister of Youth & Sports, visited the site on August 2013; a while after H.E. was appointed Chairman of Barwa Real Estate. Another visit was made by H.E. Dr. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs on February 2014, during which H.E.  looked into the latest updates and progress of the project. Until last April when Mr. Brent H. Wilton, Secretary General of the International Organisation of Employers in Geneva, visited Barwa Al Baraha and checked workers rooms, dining halls and play grounds. Secretary General was impressed by the project and braised the team on progress achieved.

It is worth mentioning that Barwa Real Estate is occupying a significant position among real estate development companies in Qatar. Projects run by the group require rich resources and capable teams which is positioning Barwa among the leaders in its field. To date, Barwa constructed 4,426,420 square meters of projects inside & outside Qatar. the group released over 13,568 residential & commercial units, among which 5,979 residential unit in Barwa City, more than 1,994 residential unit in Masaken Mesaimeer & Al Sailiya, 1,381 commercial and residential unit in Barwa Village, as well as Barwa Al Sadd which provides three office towers, a hotel, 261 apartment and 10 retail utilities.
