"Doha, Qatar - 23rd April 2012: Barwa Real Estate signed a number of agreements with the Qatari National Broadband Network to allow extending cables of optical fiber in Barwa's projects, Barwa Al Khor and Barwa Al Baraha. The agreement allows linking and connecting residential and commercial units of Barwa projects to the national broadband network. This step is a continuation of the framework agreement which was signed among both companies in 28 of July 2011, and it comes as part of both companies' support to the government plans to establish a national network of optical fiber broadband.

The new optical fiber broadband network, to be built by QNBN, will accelerate the process of providing optical fibers to residential and commercial units around the country and accordingly will enable consumers in Qatar to access the next generation of broadband network services such as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) in addition to enabling them to choose the most suitable services from a variety of different options.

While Barwa, on the other hand, will be able to use part of the network capacity to offer a range of services, other than telecommunications services, to the tenants in its projects.

Eng. Ahmad Abdulla Albdulla - Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Barwa stated: ""those agreements come as part of the framework agreement signed with QNBN earlier on with an aim to provide the best services of information and telecommunication technology to the tenants of the residential and commercial units in our projects and achieve the state objective in providing the needed coverage for all residences, companies and government agencies by 2015"".

Eng. Ahmad Salman Al Sulaiti - Chief Executive Officer for Technology in Qatar National Broadband Network, said: ""signing this agreement is the result of the mutual trust between both parties and the result of the accomplishments made through Barwa City project.
